Joseph B McCoy, AIA, LEED AP, NCARB

Founder & Principal

I began my career in Berlin, Germany with projects for adaptive re-use, historic building modernization and mixed-use in-fill. After moving to Alexandria, Virginia I joined local firm Geier Brown Renfrow Architects where I served for 16 years as project architect and project manager. Notable projects during that time include the renovation of the German Embassy in Washington, DC, new Student Commons and Historic Theater renovation at Gonzaga College High School, Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia and the LEED Gold certified Science Building at the German School in Potomac, Maryland.

I then served for nine years as project manager with the Alexandria firm Sanchez Palmer Architects where my worked included the THEARC West building at the southeast DC THEARC Community Center, the Columbia Heights Pediatric Clinic for Children’s National, and my role as the local team lead for a new parking structure at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Washington, DC.

From my experience with historically significant projects I bring an appreciation of existing buildings and their value as enduring elements of our built environment. As a LEED accredited professional, I also actively seek to incorporate sustainable design and building practices into each project while creating healthy and enriching spaces for the people who will occupy them.
